Easy Index

While experimenting with YOP Poll, I came across Easy Index, which looked rather pretty, although it depends on on the featured images chosen. I made a category index to see how it looked. This might be better if one of the first plugins chosen as it would allow you to chose the featured images more carefully. It seems they’re not too keen on transparencies either as they are displayed as black.

WordPress calendar plugin

I have just installed the time.ly All-in-One Event Calendar, a wordpress plugin on this wiki/blog. It’s rather cool, you can view the one event, a test on this wiki via the calendar page and here. The event has an “add to calendar” widget, which I have been playing with on other blogs. It displays a map if you want. It’s much faster than Nationbuilder. Nextscripts: Social Network Autoposter

I had a quick look at Nextscripts: Social Network Auto Poster. It claims to be able to forward posts to other social networks. These include as targets, twitter, linkedin and facebook. The also offer Google+ but that needs an additional library which may be chargeable. I need to work on this a bit more.

Since the blog is already forwarding to Facebook and now Medium via IFFTTT, which are the most important targets and I am unsure I want everything to go through to linkedin or even twitter, this may not be as useful as I hoped. I returned to this in Aug 2016 as I was interested in occasionally forwarding my micro blog to Medium. Continue reading “Nextscripts: Social Network Autoposter”

Testing Interactive World Map

Hmm, there is only one map per dashboard, that’s not so good and it seems based on the Risk Map. It doesn’t seem as flexible as I hoped. It’s called Interactive World Map and is available as a plugin here. The plugin comes from a company Fla-shop and is  an on-ramp to chargeable content. Their sales and marketing page for wordpress is here. It works quite nicely as a sales portal entry point, but doesn’t do what I need.

div2 div5 div6 div3 div7 div4

I question whether this is functional enough to genuinely act as a try-before-buy. It’s a good looking widget though. Haven’t quite got it working on wptouch.

There’s probably the opportunity to rehash the jokes about US political geography, particularly over the widget’s treatment of the Russian Federation and maybe even Turkey.

I wonder if the HTML usermap feature would work with this.

In August 2015, the vendor upgraded the plugin, significantly. The map above is the new one.

Rendering RSS on my blog or wiki

I have today installed JP’s Get RSS Feed, a wordpress plugin. I shall be using this to replace my delicious linkrolls using the delicious rss location. See also my snip on Delicious Linkrolls.

It requires a shortcode/codesnip to invoke it’s parameters e.g

[jp-rss-feed
    url="http://feeds.del.icio.us/v2/rss/davelevy/convoyswharf"
    numitems="7" getdesc="50" ]

I should document this differently, but the snip must be on one line, and no space between the [ & the ‘jp’.

There’s a few more parameters which are documented on their home page

Another widgit

and now we have another RSS rendering widget

This was found to be broken on 17th October 2016.

Related Posts Plugin

I have been using the Related Posts plugin by Sovrn Zemanta. At some time, WordPress deprecated this and one of the webservice providers “Zemanta” withdrew/failed or something … this led me to consider how to replace it as I very much like the feature, although given the low readership, I wonder how many others than me find it so.
