I wanted to add a widget to a wordpress web article that allowed readers to add the event to their calendars. I found the site called, “AddEvent“. Fabulous. Proving that doing one thing well is all a web service has to do. Continue reading “Adding an Event to a Calendar”

I need a fifth blog; I am planning to reimplement my ello feed in wordpress and so I checked out some themes, simple, sosimple, libretto and minnow. I went live with minnow. Continue reading “Yet another wordpress theme”
I installed the ‘Hello Simpsons Chalkboard Gag’ plugin. I use it as a test tool since it is invoked using a short code.
Here’s the wisdom for today,
Fun does not have a size
If the short code is before the More line, then it appears on the Home, if after only if one enters the page itself. (So make a tiny article that looks like part of the header and pin it? We now have some PHP, see below/overleaf. )
By themegrill.com, they say, Spacious is incredibly spacious with a clean responsive design. And it has many awesome features like image slider, theme options & many more! I am cobsidering to freshen up http://davelevy.info, to see what it looks like, see http://next.davelevy.info Continue reading “Spacious Theme”
Tag Clouds have been bugging me for ages, and I have just installed, WP Category Tag Cloud, which is pretty awesome. I have used the short codes to set up a tag cloud on its own page, and also installed a moving three-D cloud on the About this Wiki page. The featured picture is a picture generated by tagcloud. I had a quick look at Nextscripts: Social Network Auto Poster. It claims to be able to forward posts to other social networks. These include as targets, twitter, linkedin and facebook. The also offer Google+ but that needs an additional library which may be chargeable. I need to work on this a bit more.
Since the blog is already forwarding to Facebook and now Medium via IFFTTT, which are the most important targets and I am unsure I want everything to go through to linkedin or even twitter, this may not be as useful as I hoped. I returned to this in Aug 2016 as I was interested in occasionally forwarding my micro blog to Medium. Continue reading “Nextscripts: Social Network Autoposter”
This is a delight. This post at wordpress’ support forum is the place to start. This wasn’t the problem, but I am sure we’ll be back!
While working on Nulis and while attempting to solve some other problems I began to need to document the contents of wordpress databases. The first problem I sought to solve was to build a visual map of the site. This needs the schema to be understood and the table contents to be extracted. This needs the login parameters and a connection route. The second problem involves creating a new template and will need it’s SQL designed and encapsulated in PHP. Just checking out how to use WordPress’s emoticons. Continue reading “WordPress and Smilies”
I have been using Vote it up on my blog for a couple of years, although no-one else has, I think I received one vote that wasn’t me and they also commented. I noticed during the Autumn of 2014 that it seemed a bit broken. So I had a little look and decided to replace it. Continue reading “More wordpress voting plugins”
It seems that the wordpress plugin page lists those plugins held in the ./wp-content/plugins folder.
The article, What, Why, and How-To’s of Creating a Site-Specific WordPress Plugin shows how to create a container. They advise that it is located in its own directory. Doing this creates an entry in a the Plugins, installed plugins page on the dashboard.
